The most reliable route from Manchester to Stonehenge via Salisbury runs via CrossCountry through Birmingham and Southampton Central, or via Great Western Railway through Reading and Basingstoke. Always check National Rail for the fastest service on your chosen date.

Manchester to Stonehenge: day trip or weekend break?

Manchester visitors have two options. For a pure day trip, catch the earliest available train — typically departing around 06:30 to 07:30 — which gets you to Salisbury in time for the 10:05 or 11:05 shuttle. You’ll be at Stonehenge by mid-morning and back in Manchester by late evening.

Alternatively, many visitors from Manchester make it a weekend break: one night in Salisbury or Bath, visiting both cities and Stonehenge across two days. Salisbury has excellent hotels within walking distance of the shuttle pickup, and the cathedral city is a remarkable destination in its own right.
